Fear of Public Speaking
It
used to be that the fear of public speaking required the therapist and the
patient to arrange real life speaking situations in order to work with the
fearing of public speaking. With therapy using Virtual Reality Exposure
help is found in the therapist's office by using a computer-generated
audience.
In
this virtual audience you practice fear reduction techniques while
practicing your own speech. By gradually changing the size and manner of
the audience, you are able to master your feeling while gaining proficiency
as a speaker. The program allows you to practice you own speech. You can
even enter your own slide show in order to practice a specific
presentation.
At
every step of the public speech, the therapist can see and hear what you
are experiencing. The therapist has control over the exposure, the virtual
auditorium and the length of the therapy session.
